One of the ways I continually try to challenge myself and improve my service to patients is by visiting other orthodontic offices. Fortunately, I am blessed with being part of the Schulman Study Group (SSG) which comprises of 125 of the best orthodontic practices throughout the United States and Canada. I recently visited one of my SSG colleagues’ office in Kent, Ohio. The Orthodontist is Dr Steve Belli and he has been in practice for 23 years. Along with myself were several other SSG orthodontists: Dr Tim Busik of Forth Wayne Indiana, Dr Jean Kay of Toledo Ohio, Dr Joel Gluck of Nashville Tennessee, Dr Mike Lanzetta of Michigan, and Randal Moles of Milwaukee Wisconsin.
We observed Dr. Belli’s office and mingled with his patients throughout the day. At the end of the day, we gathered together to discuss things that we felt were exceptional and unique that could possibly be applied to our offices. Additionally, Dr. Belli encouraged us to give him some feedback on anything we saw with the way in which he managed his patients and practice that we felt he could improve on. Needless to say learning, in this manner can be very educational and rewarding.
My office has been selected for the next office to visit. I will be having 5-7 orthodontist visit my Herrin office in October. I look forward to hearing their comments and suggestions. I am never done trying to improve my skills and service to patients.
