What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?

If you have been thinking about getting either Invisalign or traditional braces to improve the function and appearance of your teeth, you’re not alone as these two options are the most common orthodontic treatments for misaligned teeth. According to a report published by USA Today, over 5 million people have used Invisalign clear aligners to improve their smiles since the orthodontic devices were created in 1997. In this article, we take a look at the benefit of Invisalign braces over traditional braces and why they are so popular.

What Are Invisalign Braces?

Before going over how Invisalign braces work, let’s get a better understanding of what these orthodontic devices are. Invisalign braces are thermoplastic aligners that are designed to move teeth into an optimal position to improve not only their appearance but also function. They are best suited for those who have an overbite, gapped, or crowded teeth as they can resolve these problems relatively quickly. In most cases, patients will see significant improvements within 12 to 18 months. Because Invisalign braces are transparent, most patients feel less insecure about wearing them, which increases the likelihood of patient compliance. They can also be removed, enabling patients to enjoy their favourite meals without the threat of damaging their orthodontic appliance, unlike traditional braces. Read more…

What Is an Orthodontist?

dentist orthodontist looking at somethingAre Dentists and Orthodontists the Same?

Dentists and orthodontists are trained physicians that are in related fields but serve very different purposes. Dentists take care of the general health of the teeth, gums, and mouth. Orthodontists are dentists that go further and receive special training in the alignment, positioning, and placement of teeth and jaws and if necessary, can correct any serious issues with any of those problems. How do I know if I need to see an orthodontist? Generally, the dentist will refer a patient to the orthodontist and then throughout the treatment plan, the two will work closely together. If the dentist notices problems with the positioning and placement of the teeth that could cause potential health problems, he will make the recommendation that orthodontic treatment is in order.

What are the duties of an orthodontist? The field of orthodontia is a field of dentistry that specializes in diagnosing and treating teeth that are not positioned correctly or are out of alignment. Orthodontists also treat problems with the positioning of the jaws. Orthodontists receive a great deal of specialized training beyond dentistry in order to prevent and treat these issues. A good analogy is a general doctor who goes beyond and receives additional training to become a specialist.

“Days may smile and may not. But you can smile anytime, just smile.” ― Samar AlDhamadi

Every day presents us with a choice. We can choose whether to smile or not to smile. We can choose whether to show the world the brightness of our spirit by offering a big, bright smile, or we an choose to hide the light of our spirit from others.

The great beauty of a smile is that it offers so much to another person, and it really costs us nothing to give. By smiling at another person (whether we are wearing braces or not), we are sharing a great part of ourselves. In a sense, we are offering love, even if that person is a stranger. We are offering a welcome from our spirit to another, without really asking anything in return. When you stop to think of it, a smile is an enormously generous gesture to share with another person.

Why is it Hard to Smile?

Samar AlDhamadi said, “Days may smile and may not. But you can smile anytime, just smile.” Yes, a smile is free to give and it offers multitudes, whether or not the person has seen an orthodontist or not. Straight teeth (achieved by an orthodonist and invisalign and braces) are beautiful, but the essence of a smile is the joy it conveys to another person. So why is it hard for some people to smile?

Some people have a hard time smiling at others because of innate shyness, and yes, this is a hard thing to overcome. However, with a little practice, smiling can come more easily and more naturally. The amazing thing about a smile is that it brightens ups the feelings of the person who receives it, and it also brightens up the person who is smiling. That’s all the more reason why a smile should be shared on a regular basis.

The essence of the joy a smile brings is that it offers the world a new perspective. Smiling means we are making a choice to enjoy life in all its simple pleasures, and by sharing that smile we are sending the message that life is meant to be enjoyed and savored.

A clean bright smile is a beautiful thing, but of course some people do feel self conscious about smiling if they never had the chance to see an orthodontist and wear braces. The good news today is that now with invisalign teeth straighteners, those who missed out on getting a straighter smile in their youth can have it now, with a minimum of hassle.

“I Have a Tickle in my Brain and it Keeps Making the Corners in my Mouth Point Towards the Heavens”

It’s common knowledge that smiles are infectious. Smiles resulting from pure joy make the entire face feel ecstatic. However, conditions exist that cause many people to feel self-conscious about their appearance when they smile. For instance, uneven teeth, gaps, and overbites can all put a damper on expressions of joy. Fortunately, an experienced orthodontist can fit you with braces that will leave you with a smile worth beaming about.

“The world is like a mirror; frown at it, and it frowns at you. Smile and it smiles, too” – Herbert Samuels

smile quotes

You Can Smile Instead of Frowning

Smiling at the world is like a mirror because it will smile back at you. When Herbert Samuels was having a bad day, he noticed that frowning led to having others frown back at him. This is an important lesson to learn, but if you avoid smiling because your teeth are misaligned, then you probably don’t want to smile. However, it is easy to visit an orthodontist to have an examination to determine if you can have your teeth straightened by wearing braces or aligners. If you have mild malocclusions, then you can undergo treatment with aligners.
