Ask Dr. Childers: What can my child expect during their first consultation?

When you first come in for your initial consultation, Dr. Childers will conduct a comprehensive examination to assess your oral health. This will better enable us to determine the best treatment method for you.

Your orthodontic evaluation will consist of an oral and facial examination to assess your oral health. Dr. Childers will have you take intraoral and facial photographs as well as panoramic and cephalometric X-rays to help determine the proper orthodontic treatment method. Then, an impression of your teeth and bite will be taken to construct a model of your mouth. This will help Dr. Childers when examining your diagnostic records.

We encourage all of our patients to post their twin pictures on our Facebook page wall. Any pictures that you post on Facebook will be added to our Spirit Days 2010 Facebook album.

football

Football Inspiration

I wanted to share a photograph that one of my employees took at a recent football game. The photo shows many of the players from both the DuQuoin and Harrisburg football team kneeling in prayer after the game. I can’t express how touched I was at the picture. In today’s day and age when both religion and sportsmanship are downplayed, it is heartwarming to see that both are still alive and present here in Southern Illinois. Most of us from SI realize how hard fought the game was between these two power house teams. What a wonderful testimony that they can come together like this after the game. I would love to know who the player or players were that first suggested this gathering. I wish you could encourage other football players from around the area to follow in you example. I am very proud of all of you.

Thank you,

October is National Orthodontic Health Month!

Did you know that October is National Orthodontic Health Month? Dr. Childers and our team know how tempting this time of the year can be for your sweet tooth. With all of the caramel, candy corn, and lollipops that are often passed around to trick-or-treaters, we know that it can sometimes be hard to find hard candy alternatives.

However, there is good news! Today, we would like to share a few braces-friendly holiday foods with all of our patients, courtesy of the American Association of Orthodontics, or AAO. These treats are delicious, and provided that you remember to brush and floss after indulging, these foods will not cause damage to your beautiful smile.

Orthodontic-Friendly Treats
• Soft, melt-in-your-mouth chocolates
• Peanut butter cups
• Milk shakes
