The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recently developed a program called Donated Orthodontic Services (DOS). This program has been active in Illinois for a little over a year. Currently, 99 orthodontists in Illinois have volunteered to donate one or two cases per year to help qualified disadvantaged children. Dr. Kyle Childers signed up to volunteer with DOS last year.
At this time, DOS allows for 93 children in Illinois to pursue orthodontic treatment who would not have had the opportunity otherwise. Many patients will finish treatment in the upcoming months, and enjoy the lifelong benefit of a beautiful smile provided by a DOS volunteer orthodontist. Unfortunately, this program is in such high demand that 166 children are still waiting to be assigned to an orthodontist.
Although Dr. Childers currently provides free treatment to 8 children a year through our “Smile for a Lifetime” program, he feels it is important to support this state sponsored program as well. “I hope other orthodontists will join us and sign up for this worthwhile program. The gift of a new smile is truly priceless,” said Dr. Childers.
