Does My Child Need To Have Baby Teeth Removed

If your child still has their baby teeth, you may be wondering when they should be removed to prevent major orthodontic delays. Most baby teeth start to fall out when a child is around five or six years old. It can take a few years for all baby teeth to fall out. If your child still has some or all of their baby teeth when they are nine or 10 years, they may need to be removed. Removing the baby teeth can help your child to have a fuller and straighter smile with fewer orthodontic problems.

Independence Day

It’s hard to believe, but July is already here and half of 2012 has already passed! As July 4th approaches, our team thought it would be fun to share some facts and safety tips for celebrating our country’s Independence Day.

Fun Facts

• Betsy Ross, according to legend, sewed the first American flag in May or June 1776, as commissioned by the Congressional Committee.
• The major objection to being ruled by Britain was taxation without representation. The colonists had no say in the decisions of English Parliament.
• The word ‘patriotism’ comes from the Latin  word, Patria, which means ‘homeland’ or ‘fatherland.’
• The first public Fourth of July event at the White House occurred in 1804.
• And what could be more fitting than spending the day in a place called “America”? There are five such places in the country, with the most populous being American Fork, Utah, with 21,941 residents. Check out American Fact Finder.

Safety Tips:

• Avoid buying fireworks that are packaged in brown paper because this is often a sign that the fireworks were made for professional displays and that they could pose a danger to consumers.
• Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishaps.
• Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
• To prevent a trash fire, be sure to douse the spent fireworks with plenty of water from a bucket or hose after fireworks complete their burning and before discarding them.
• Make sure fireworks are legal before buying or using them.
What are your plans this 4th of July? Share them with us! We’d love to hear what you and the rest of the community will be doing to celebrate! (Don’t forget to make sure there are no restrictions on fireworks! Check out this link to see if fireworks might be an issue for you this year.)

The Smiles We’re Achieving – Your Orthodontic Journey

Just a small town girl’
A braces smile and hair that’s curled
She hops into the car for her special day

A Johnston City boy
Born and raised in Illinois
He’s leaving school today to go somewhere cool

They walked into the clinic room
Knowing braces would be off soon
For a smile they will share with friends
That lasts on, and on, and on

Patients sitting
In our nice reception room
Their teeth are going to feel tighttttt
But they, know that
It will be worth it soon
They will have a healthy Biteeeeee

Placing braces to get that grill
Bending wires gives me a thrill
Straightening teeth is just my vice
Just one more smile…….

Some like Invisalign
Because it’s clear
You’re lucky cause we do both here
Oh the fun here never ends it goes on, and on, and on

Patients leaving
Happy with their brand-new smiles
Knowing, Childers did it right
They wear retainers
To keep their teeth from moving
It’s what they’ll do every nighttttttt

Don’t stop believing
Your teeth will be straight
Excellence is the reason oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhhh

The care you’re receiving
Will be the best you ever had
From beginning to leaving oh, oh, ohhhhhhhh

The smiles we’re achieving
Are beautiful to have
Change yours this season oh, oh, ohhhhhhhhh

brushing teeth

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, from Childers Orthodontics

Each February for the past 62 years, the American Dental Association (ADA) has sponsored National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

For kids wearing braces, brushing and flossing can become more difficult, requiring extra time and vigilance to remove food particles that accumulate on and between the teeth and in braces. New options for braces such as Invisalign Teen, which is removable, make it easier for kids to maintain good oral health during orthodontic treatment.

If the health of your teeth is ignored during treatment with braces, the results can be significantly compromised. Dr. Kyle Childers is available and happy to explain why effective brushing and flossing is one of the most critical actions needed from patients during orthodontic treatment.
