Toothbrushing Mistake No. 8: “Not Following Up With a Rinse”

Toothbrushing Mistake No. 8: “Not Following Up With a Rinse”

Rinse Your Mouth to Remove Additional Debris

When you are brushing your teeth, it is essential to rinse your mouth with water to remove the remaining food debris, toothpaste and bacteria. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is an effective way to remove the food particles that collect in your mouth throughout the day. However, if you don’t rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing, then some of the debris will remain inside your mouth or enter your digestive system. A great way to remember to rinse your mouth is by keeping a cup next to your toothpaste in your bathroom. If you wear braces, then make sure to have your orthodontist teach you how to brush your teeth properly to prevent cavities, gingivitis and halitosis.

Have an Attractive Smile

If you are wearing Invisalign aligners to straighten your teeth, then you must remove the devices to chew food. After eating your meals, make sure to brush your teeth before rinsing your mouth. When you forget to rinse your mouth, you are likely to have foamy toothpaste in your mouth that is trapped behind the clear plastic of your aligners. This bad habit leads to having an unattractive smile, and the foaming toothpaste isn’t good for the plastic of your aligners or for your health.
